Born in Paris and aspired at an early age to be a writer. An influential artist and thinker, she wrote primarily fiction until 1964, when her last novel, Collages, was published. She gained commercial and critical success with the publication of the first volume of her diary (1966); to date, fifteen diary volumes have been published. Her most commercially successful books were her erotica published as Delta of Venus (1977) and Little Birds (1979). Today, her books are appearing digitally, most notably The Portable Anaïs Nin (2011).

Courage is like a muscle you can exercise. It starts with our first breath on the day we are born.  The courage to live life, to win.

What about making it stronger and stronger over the years?

Practice courage requires trying different and new things, face our fears, doubts, and doubters. Life shrinks or expands in proportion to courage.

Taking a risk and facing big challenges produce big courage. Small ones every so often maintain its strength. As I related in my Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life, listen to your own inner voice and follow your instincts.

Exercise your courage. You learn courage by couraging.
